The opening of Auckland Climate Festival 2021 was marked with a moving launch event on Tuesday 12 October, and organisers have been amazed by the public's response to the virtual event. Highlights include a message of hope from Hon James Shaw ahead of his trip to COP26 in Glasgow this month.
“Hope comes from the knowledge that we’re taking actions that make a difference. Not just my own individual actions or my family, my whānau, my community or my business... but the actions we’re taking collectively, which is why I think initiatives like Auckland Climate Festival are so important,” Shaw said.
Festival Founder, Michelle Kennedy, closed the event with a moving address: "And so friends, let us be brave and remember that a thriving environment is a thriving society. Let’s go as one! Nō reira e hoa mā. Kia kaha rā tātou. 'Toitū te Taiao, Toitū te Tangata'. Hoake tātou!"
