SHELF-LIFE, a series of 10 photographs by British photographer Mandy Barker, will be on display in the Grand Foyer of Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum from 11 October 2021 to 20 February 2022.
In partnership with the British Council and the British High Commission, SHELF-LIFE highlights the marine plastic pollution washed up on the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Henderson Island – a remote and uninhabited member of the Pitcairn islands. Six tonnes of plastic rubbish was collected on the shores of the island, which lays thousands of kilometres from the nearest landmass. As the UK prepares to host the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP26, in Glasgow, Mandy Barker’s images call our attention to this environmental disaster.
